Team or Function Overview

GAF is looking for a Process Engineer to join the Quality Assurance team for the manufacturing site in Mt. Vernon, IN (about 20 miles west of Evansville). This site was founded in 1973 and supports the production of high-quality asphaltic shingles and rolled roofing materials.

Summary

This is a unique opportunity for an Engineering professional to be exposed to a wide range of engineering functions (process improvement, root cause analysis, quality trials) at our asphalt-shingle manufacturing plant. The Process Engineer will ensure accuracy, consistency and quality of our manufacturing processes. This is an ideal role for someone who wants to collaborate with Operations to drive overall process improvements, and doesn't mind getting hands on and a little dirty in the process!

Essential Duties

  • Support all plant product qualifications, process capability studies, raw materials trials/qualifications and product development/improvement projects

  • Work with the Technical Manager to support all R&D Department Plant Trial Requests (PTR’s). Ensure trials are accurately conducted and reported per required standards, timelines and accounting cycles

  • Identify production or process problems and prepare/implement solutions as needed, using standard tools such as data historian, MVT/DOE, and problem analysis/solving techniques

  • Communicate effectively with management team regarding resources needed to ensure timely and accurate execution of process improvement projects

  • Performs Problem Analysis/FMEA on all major process and raw material changes

  • Work with the Plant Engineer and Department Managers to prepare and submit process-related requests for capital expenditures

  • Manage the application and interpretation of SPC charting and teach all machine operators the benefits of the tool and how to input data

  • Working with the Technical Manager and Department Managers, established and enforce quality policies and procedures

  • With support of Technical Manager, manage all process specifications

  • Monitor in-process material measurements and process data software (BrainCube, Wonderware Historian)

  • Submit controlled document revisions for electronic approval as required

  • Participates in plant technical support activities as required to achieve plant goals

  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment to safety and be a leader in the areas of housekeeping and organization

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing

Under This Roof, We Require

  • BS degree in Engineering, preferably ChE, EE or ME.

  • 1+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to safety and have experience with manufacturing controls (preferably PLC and HMI).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering fundamentals is required.
