We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join the Engineering team. The incumbent will report directly to the Plant Engineering Manager, with additional guidance and oversight from Corporate Project Engineering. He/she will lead various projects within the Myerstown, PA facility and secondarily support other manufacturing facilities throughout the organization. The role is intended to be a hybrid position, with 50% of the work responsibilities dedicated to the plant and 50% focusing on enterprise efforts across multiple facilities and/or new site construction. The role is a developmental opportunity to gain valuable project management experience within the manufacturing environment with additional emphasis on corporate initiatives. The dual experience will provide growth opportunities locally or at a corporate level based on the employee’s preferred career path.

Essential Duties

  • Provide direct engineering design support for capital projects, equipment modifications, and plant improvements and ensure the existence of consistent and comprehensive job standards, procedures, and quality requirements for assigned projects. Fully define, design, lead, and manage all aspects of capital projects throughout the life cycle. Fulfill role as a key technical resource for capital projects during design, construction, and startup phases of projects. Manage the efforts of contractors and/or internal maintenance personnel in project installations. Support new product development and manufacturing with equipment and systems development. Research and technically evaluate opportunities for resolution of systematic and routine problems and provide improvements in terms of fundamental performance requirements. Support long-term analysis in terms of project planning to address proposed capacity initiatives, strategic business objectives, and infrastructure needs. Prepare design scope, cost and internal authorization for capital expenditures including project justification. Demonstrate focus to deliver capital project deliverables in terms of controlling and achieving scope, schedule, and budget requirements.

  • Fulfill role as a technical resource for process improvements and other engineering activities including elements of detailed design, multi-discipline installation, contractor coordination, commissioning, and sustained ownership. Support continual improvements throughout the organization, particularly in terms of process and equipment modifications through various assignments, technical evaluations, work requests, and engineering analysis. Provide technical analysis of current best technologies and work practices to address opportunities for improvements. Assist in the development and implementation of plant technical programs and standards. Maintain thorough engineering standards for project execution, design, equipment standards, safety, and cost control. Manage resolution of routine issues in an efficient, timely, and independent manner.

  • Lead problem solving and troubleshooting to support functional manufacturing needs. Provide continual plant support as an engineering resource and demonstrate direct application support for Production, Maintenance, and Engineering. Support engineering, maintenance and production departments for continuous plant process improvements and manage the efforts of contractors and/or internal personnel in project execution.

  • Analyze all facets of proposed corporate projects and provide detailed cost, schedule, and justification estimates to support capital expenditures. Interface with maintenance and production personnel to ascertain and identify operational maintenance problems and improvement opportunities. Conduct engineering and project analysis and lead major and minor project justification and implementation.

  • Support safety initiatives and reinforce safe work procedures and practices throughout organization including training and implementation of engineered controls. Support establishment of safe work policies and opportunities for enhanced safe equipment operation and maintenance.

Under This Roof, We Require

  • A BS Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical with Mechanical preferred) coupled with a minimum of 3 years project management experience.

  • Work experience of 2-3 years in roofing/building products and/or directly transferable OEM or engineering design environment.

  • Ability to work in multi-disciplines as project manager and supervise others as a lead engineer.

  • Ability to work with and provide expertise in maintenance, operations, and process management.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% to accommodate corporate project initiatives.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., without current or future requirement for sponsorship of an employment-based visa status.

  • Thorough knowledge and experience with computer software applications and G Suite/MSOffice. Design drafting experience with CAD, preferably Autodesk products, is preferred.

  • The ideal candidate will have a proven background in managing all aspects of projects within budget, scope, and downtime constraints.

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated abilities in terms of capital project planning, development, and execution including conceptual design, detailed design, construction and installation coordination, technical training, and turnover, commissioning support, and sustained ownership.

  • Application knowledge of standard manufacturing concepts, practices, & procedures-Preferred engineering experience in directly transferable manufacturing and/or OEM and engineering design environments, particularly those that include continuous production equipment and process systems.

  • Advanced ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings.

  • Proficiency using root cause analysis and Kepner-Trego or other structured methods to troubleshoot and solve problems.

  • Ability to translate technical data into a format/language suitable for operations and maintenance personnel.

  • Exposure to process hazard analysis and process safety management methodologies.

  • Advanced knowledge of engineering fundamentals, particularly multi-discipline in nature.

Job / General knowledge/skills:

  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards, general industry standards, and environmental compliance.

  • Proficient communications skills; written, verbal, and listening skills.

  • Advanced analytical and organizational skills including a high level for attention to detail – able to plan, execute, and control multiple tasks concurrently.

  • Demonstrated technical problem solving skills including hands-on experience with contractors and/or internal maintenance personnel.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects including those of multi-discipline nature.

  • Preferred engineering experience with integrated design environments including, but not limited to, OEMs and/or consultant engineering.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing

  • Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery

  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone

  • Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading
