Job Description:

The Benefits Manager provides operational support to the organization in alignment with Company strategy and goals. This role will manage the day to day administration of employee benefit plans under General Supervision of the Director. The incumbent will manage, guide and develop internal Benefits Department staff and assist the Director in determining procedures to perform with a variety of departmental tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct the work activities of staff in the operational administration of all benefits

  • Plan development and management of annual open enrollment to include the communication and distribution of benefits information to employees

  • Ensure timely response by staff to all inquiries received through HR Connect. Analyze nature of inquiries to identify root causes and determine appropriate process enhancements to mitigate any inquiries driven by systematic, procedural, or administrative inaccuracies.

  • Manage the resolution of variances identified by the Senior Analyst in reconciliation of benefit enrollment and administration. Identify the root cause and solution to mitigate ongoing issues.

  • Work with HRIS Analyst in developing more efficient ways to process, report and audit information

  • Periodic review of plan documents, communication and orientation documents in accordance with such plan documents and update accordingly to ensure accuracy and conformity with program parameters

  • Communicate regularly with Human Resources, Payroll, Total Rewards and HRIS on benefits related issues

  • Assist Director in evaluating and comparing existing company benefits with those of other employers through collaboration with outside Partners such as Aon and Buck.

  • Oversee COBRA Administration

  • Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations, such as the Health Care Act and HIPPA

  • Responsible for anticipating, identifying and communicating compliance risks related to administrative gaps between plan design and delivery models.

  • Analyze, evaluate and suggest innovative improvements to processes and benefit offerings, staying abreast of industry trends and forecasting employee needs

  • Develop long-range objectives regarding enhanced benefit programs

  • Subject matter expert for best practice administration of retirement and health & welfare plans

  • Resolve most issues independently, with elevated matters being referred to the Director

  • Frequent contact with internal customers, insurance carriers and/or third party administrators is required.

Technical knowledge/skills (entry, intermediate, advanced):

  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with all HR and benefits information

  • Advanced organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management skills

  • Advanced critical thinking

  • Advanced analytical skills

  • Intermediate Retirement compliance and design knowledge

  • Advanced Verbal and Written Communication Skills

  • Advanced Professional Judgment

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.

  • 5-10 years of experience with retirement, insurance benefits, financial planning/analysis, or audit.

  • 2-3 years experience managing a team

  • Experience with Alight/AON administrative agreements a plus
