Job Description:

Summary

We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer/Manager to join the Corporate Engineering team, reporting to the Sr. Director, Implementation, Strategic Capital. This position will be remote. The incumbent will lead capital projects at our manufacturing facilities throughout the USA or new sites under development. The experience required for this position is described in greater detail below.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the concept development of assigned projects including collaboration with business managers, contract engineering and construction firms, and other GAF managers in order to prepare the capital funding request. This involves detailing concepts, overseeing preliminary engineering design, selecting suppliers, estimating costs, justifying the project, and writing the formal capital project submittal.

  • Manage all aspects of the execution of major capital projects including safety, design, construction, contract management, scope management, spending, schedule, regulatory compliance, reporting, and final delivery of functional facilities and processes. This includes periodic onsite safety and progress monitoring, and maintaining systems to assure a comprehensive awareness of project status.

  • Lead and participate in cross-functional GAF teams investigating opportunities to improve and expand GAF’s processes and products, and other business opportunities.

  • Lead and collaborate with other GAF engineers and managers in evaluating engineering designs and documents, achieving successful project outcomes, and developing improved methods and standards.

  • Coordinate contractors, engineers, and GAF team members in construction, commissioning, and startup while maintaining efficient plant operations and managing the project budget.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Construction) or related disciplines.

  • A minimum of 7 years hands-on experience managing major capital equipment installations, preferably including at least 4 years of experience in roofing or other continuous web manufacturing or converting industries.

  • The ideal candidate will have a proven background in managing projects with budgets of $0.5MM - $20MM.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in multiple disciplines as project manager and to supervise others as a leader.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and provide expertise in maintenance, operations, and process.

  • Willingness and ability to travel 50-60% during periods of heavy field work and plant activity.

  • Must also have a comprehensive knowledge and experience with computers and experience with CAD, preferably AutoCAD.

  • The location for the position is within one hour of a major commercial airport in the USA.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., without current or future requirement for sponsorship of an employment-based visa status

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of engineering and construction standards and practices

  • Advanced ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings

  • Advanced proficiency using root cause analysis to troubleshoot and solve problems

  • Advanced ability to translate technical data into a format/language suitable for personnel

  • Advanced skills in safety, process hazard analysis and process safety

  • Advanced proficiency in desktop computing and internet research

  • Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatics

  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing analysis tools, such as statistical analysis/statistical process control (SPC), Agile- Lean manufacturing, Kepner-Tregoe

  • Demonstrated experience in procurement including writing specifications, identifying and evaluating suppliers, and evaluation of proposal alternatives and exceptions.

Leadership / General knowledge skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership in terms of capital project planning, development, and execution including conceptual design, detailed design, construction and installation coordination, technical training, commissioning, start-up support, and sustainable operations.

  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and collaborating with coworkers, suppliers, and other stakeholders from all levels of an organization

  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations

  • Demonstrated communications skills; written, verbal, and listening skills

  • Demonstrated ability to understand budgets and accounting reports, tracking spending / procurement, and prepare written and verbal spending reports

  • Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail – able to plan, execute, and control multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Advanced problem-solving using a systematic approach

  • Demonstrated ability to execute projects within scope, schedule, and budget

  • Leadership experience including direct supervision of internal and external team members

  • Ability to manage the efforts of contractors and/or internal maintenance personnel in project installations

  • Strong ability to Influence and drive cross-functional decisions and initiatives
