Job Description:


Reporting to GAF’s Vanguard business unit General Manager, the Director of Business Development is a hands-on management role responsible for setting the business and operations strategy to support taking the business concept in development, bringing it to market, and building out the team. As such, s/he will provide the strategic development for the emerging business line(s) and advance the change agenda. As the first business development leader of this organization, the Director is expected to provide guidance to all functional areas to ensure the consistent deployment of the business and operations strategy.


P&L Management & Business Growth

  • Work with senior executive partners to refine the vision for the Vanguard business line and define the overall strategy from launch to scale, including long-term goals

  • Drive day-to-day business development activities and align resources across product, marketing, and sales operations to achieve key business priorities

Business Development & Growth Innovation

  • Establish all aspects of a strategic business development function to meet the growing and ever-changing needs of consumers

  • Coordinate with cross-functional peers and executive leadership to leverage existing GAF business development resources where feasible; in addition, develop new and innovative approaches to business development that will differentiate Vanguard from the core GAF business where appropriate

  • Develop analyses and materials to support the GM’s efforts to evangelize key principles and strategic themes to guide strategic initiatives, including organic/inorganic growth, annual investment plans, new business generation, etc.

  • Analyze quantitative (e.g., marketing project ROI, prospect and sales projections, etc.) and qualitative (e.g., competitive strategies, key supplier and customer relationship management, etc.) business conditions to establish strategic and tactical measures to support innovation and growth initiatives

  • Drive positive sales and margin results through innovative go-to-market approaches and the deployment of value creation strategies

Continuous Disruption & Innovation

  • Continue to support the development of the business and operations model ahead of the market

  • Provide expert guidance to all functional areas to ensure consistent and integrated business development, relationship management, and sales & marketing process

Stakeholder Management

  • Regularly report updates to the General Manager regarding progress on strategic priorities, and drive collaboration where necessary to accelerate progress

  • Inspire with Meaning & Purpose

  • Support the GM’s external efforts as the spokesperson and champion for the Vanguard business line

Organizational Transformation & Leadership

  • Attract, retain & develop world-class talent, including making recruitment decisions of a cross-functional team

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree with 10+ years of experience in business development or a related strategic customer-facing area

  • Demonstrated success in growing businesses through a combination of innovation and discipline

  • Proven track record of running successful projects at scale and supporting the building of successful go-to-market functions and high caliber teams from the ground up

  • Experience in managing corporate stakeholders to keep regular updates on business performance and progress

  • Ability to develop, communicate, and persuade stakeholders even in the face of extreme skepticism, risk, and uncertainty
