Director Commercial Procurement


The Procurement Director manages a team of procurement professionals who oversee global supply for direct materials and/or outsourced products required to meet GAF business needs. The Procurement Director will provide significant input regarding the development of departmental strategies, goals and initiatives to achieve GAF business objectives. The candidate will hire, oversee, develop, and manage his/her team to achieve these goals and objectives. The Director will drive his/her procurement team to develop sourcing plans and negotiation strategies that lead to contracts which protect GAF, ensure competitive pricing and highest overall value, and are aligned with GAF corporate policies and procedures.

An ideal candidate would have a mature understanding of contracts and strong experience in both negotiations and supplier relationship development as well as prior experience related to the petrochemicals. The candidate will also guide or lead cross functional teams responsible for approval and implementation of alternative suppliers, in order to provide GAF with competitive leverage and mitigate overall business risk. The Procurement Director will make certain that his/her team monitors macro trends in the GAF supply base and communicates these trends to internal GAF partners, driving implementation of effective sourcing business decisions. The candidate will ensure that plans and strategies are in place to protect GAF from commodity price swings and safeguard against supply disruptions. The Procurement Director will review supplier performance metrics and will ensure that his/her team manages GAF’s supply base in alignment with those metrics.


30 -35% Lead efforts to develop, monitor and implement Lead team of procurement professionals to: (1) Develop, drive and implement strategies that develop supplier base and manage supplier relationships; (2) forecast market changes; (3) develop and recommend alternative sourcing options to mitigate risk, lower costs, and expand revenue opportunities; and (4) evaluate suppliers based on quality, customer service, cost, and reliability.

15-20% Function in an advisory role by managing relationships with suppliers and internal organizational groups to meet mutual objectives. Ensure clear communications to internal customers and suppliers. Deliver timely cost and trend information to other internal functional groups. Be a catalyst for creativity and innovation, as it pertains to purchased goods and services by providing supply-based market intelligence to internal GAF partners.

15-20% Drive and facilitate negotiations with suppliers and coordination with internal customers (e.g., Operations, Manufacturing, Marketing, HR, IT, Legal, R&D and Sales) for execution of agreements and implementation of supply, that provide value to GAF.

10-15% Provide input in setting departmental goals and oversee corporate procurement staff to drive alignment with GAF procurement goals and business objectives

5-10% Oversee development and implementation sourcing strategies aligned with GAF procurement and business objectives.

5-10% Ensure alignment with business strategies and purchasing policies

5-10% Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in field of supply chain, business, science or engineering

  • 10 or more years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or manufacturing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Business management experience preferred

  • Master’s Degree preferred
