Job Description:

SUMMARY

Reporting to GAF’s VP of Residential R&D, the Process Research & Development Leader for the Residential R&D business unit is a hands-on management role responsible for the development and improvement of manufacturing processes across multiple product lines. As such, s/he will provide the strategic and operational insight to ensure GAF is using the most efficient, effective, and value-added processes appropriate for our business lines. The Process Research & Development Leader is expected to assess and upgrade, as appropriate, the design and operation of the residential manufacturing organizations to reflect the future needs of our customers and our business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

P&L Management & Business Growth

  • Work with executive and senior management partners to refine the vision for the Residential R&D organization and define the overall product strategy from concept to development to manufacturing handoff

  • Drive day-to-day operations and align resources to achieve key business priorities

  • Own, oversee, and participate in, innovative product manufacturing process identification, new technology/approach research, and manufacturing process improvement within the residential sector while collaborating and seeking efficiencies with peers in the commercial sector R&D organization

Business Development & Growth Innovation

  • Develop analyses and materials to support the VP’s efforts to evangelize key principles and strategic themes to guide strategic initiatives, including organic/inorganic growth, annual investment plans, and new manufacturing process approach/technology family directions

  • Indirectly drive positive sales results through direct- and indirect authority over which manufacturing processes are used, and how, and at what level of investment and quality output

Continuous Disruption & Innovation

  • Continue to support the development of the business model ahead of the market

  • Provide expert guidance to all residential functional areas to ensure the appropriate resources are allocated to the improvement of existing manufacturing processes and the development of new processes as needed

  • Support the development of innovative manufacturing approaches using deep technology background to deliver on key product differentiators in the market

  • Refine and maintain efficient and effective manufacturing processes across multiple facilities

Stakeholder Management

  • Regularly report updates to the VP regarding progress on strategic priorities, and drive collaboration where necessary to accelerate progress

  • Inspire with Meaning & Purpose

  • Support the VP’s external efforts as the spokesperson and champion for the residential R&D organization’s priorities

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to manage or contribute to a manufacturing process design/development team

  • Minimum of 5 years as a manufacturing process engineer or manager

  • Has led or supported the hiring of technologists, engineers, and other manufacturing process professionals in narrowly-defined labor markets

  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve process development, deployment, and improvement goals

  • Expertise in modern durable goods manufacturing processes

  • Proficiency in the use of project and process management tools and systems, particularly those used in large and complex organizations with multiple formal functional areas

  • Demonstrated ability to implement and improve manufacturing processes (polymer-based)

  • Proven ability to define investment, timing, and deliverable requirements

  • Proven ability to set standards for team

  • Proven ability to create or leverage necessary training materials and tools

  • Able to efficiently and effectively leverage available technologies

  • Experience in the residential building supplies industry or a related industry

  • Experience with polymer manufacturing processes

  • Proven track record of running successful projects at scale and/or enhancing the performance and unit cohesion of existing teams of highly skilled employees (as a manager or team leader)

  • Experience in managing corporate stakeholders to keep regular updates on process improvements

  • Ability to develop, communicate, and persuade stakeholders even in the face of extreme skepticism, risk, and uncertainty

Budget Responsibility: <$10M

Travel Requirements: 30%, national within the US
