Job Description:

The R&D technology plan for PolyIso development focuses on chemistry and additive technology, structure-property relationships, and assessing improvements/changes to the ISO panel construction that benefits roofing system performance. This position will focus on leading product and technology development in these and future areas, lead transition of products/technology to manufacturing, provide technical direction and strategies for advancing ISO product, process, and technology.

The key focal areas will be:

● Lead new product development for polyiso, including facers, boards, and systems using NPD process

● Fully develop and manage technical schedule for entire project from ideation through scale up to launch, including key tactical items for other functional areas

● Lead major technical initiatives and identify opportunities for developing new products, new process, new technology by working with functional teams to determine strategies

for significant business impact and growth short term and long term

● Self-directed within broad parameters; initiates projects within area of expertise, with approvals from other functional areas

The specific job description/responsibility/requirements are listed as follows.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

● Must champion safety

● Lead the organizations’ development of ISO products to provide for long term business

impact and growth

● Identify and take initiative to lead continuous improvement efforts and add new product

lines to existing platforms by working closely with partner companies and key raw material suppliers

● Provide strategic technical direction for major ISO projects, lead major technical

initiatives in collaboration with Operations, Marketing, Purchasing, and Technical Services.

● Use advanced material characterization techniques to establish structure property relationships of materials and final product performance.

● Manage technical business support for current products including raw material

qualification, benchmarking of competitive materials and product/ system testing at external laboratories.

● Develop technical strategies to improve foam performance through the use of innovative chemistry/process

● Publish technical reports and conduct presentations at regular intervals on key projects

● Supervise lab tech for R&D projects

● Provides technical direction for major projects and programs that impact a key product area and technology advancement.

● Required to work with key operations and marketing people to determine tactical objectives.

Technical knowledge/skills:

Broad based knowledge of industry/market for polyiso roofing products and is regarded as an expert

on trends and technology in that area.

● Knows the use of project planning and product development tools such as stage gate or other planning tools, and defines success criteria.

● Proven experience taking products from the lab, through manufacturing, to commercialization

● Proficient in intellectual property process. Consistently generates Invention Disclosures and is effective at editing patent applications.

● Fosters and supports good research practice amongst.

General knowledge/skills (entry, intermediate, advanced):

Education/Experience:

● 5+ years technical experience and an MS in a physical science

○ or

● 10+ years relevant experience with a BS in a physical science

○ or

● PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with minimum 2 years industrial working

experiences

Travel Requirements: 20-25%
