Job Description:

The ISO Line Operator is responsible for producing high quality commercial roofing products at the Statesboro Plant through accuracy, timeliness and efficiency of all manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate thrives in environments where safety, quality, service and cost are the highest priorities. The Line Operator will perform various, rotating duties relating to all manufacturing operations, including raw material optimization, controlling scrap, facer unwind, platform / cross cut, multi-blade, pick and place, hooder / footer, foot / panel / flute fill saws, media blaster. He or she will support the managers and all plant staff to meet Statesboro’s operational goals and perform duties as assigned. Employees will contribute to a highly motivated and positive environment.

The Line Operator reports to the Production Supervisor. Under the direction of the Production Supervisor and Production Lead, the Line Operator must be familiar with all areas of the foam making process along with any off-line equipment associated with the production line. It is the responsibility of all Technicians & Operators to operate in a safe manner, and monitor quality of the product we produce through the use of process specifications, Plant RCN, PCN, and online testing.


  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.

  • 3 years’ advanced manufacturing experience required, preferably in a fast paced, continuous process, environment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency as a fully qualified GAF ISO Machine Technician.

  • Experience supporting production and business goals.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing concepts, safety practices and procedures preferred.

  • Positive attitude, ability to adapt and contribute to a team is critical.


  • The ISO Line Operator schedules are based on business needs

  • Normally 12 hour shifts

  • Holidays, weekends and other shifts may be required

  • Night shift 6:45p - 7:00a


Line Operators will rotate job responsibilities and tasks to effectively operate the ISO production line. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving equipment and may work around tanks containing chemicals or raw materials, During seasonal changes, employees may be exposed to varied levels of heat and coldness; the facility environment overall is comfortable.


  • Advanced ability to troubleshoot and solve production challenges.

  • Basic computer and email (electronic communications) skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, other).

  • Familiar with standard manufacturing concepts, practices and procedures.

  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to read and interpret measurements.

  • The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test is administered during GAF’s selection process.


  • Ability to respond to requests in a professional and timely manner.

  • Demonstrated intermediate communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong planning, prioritization, organizational and reporting skills.

  • Ability to perform detailed testing processes in various process conditions.

  • Frequent use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of manufacturing equipment and machinery.

  • Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading.

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.


Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Produce high quality products on a consistent basis

  • Generate timely, consistent reports

  • Communicate positively with other production operators and leaders

  • Assure all activities are performed safely


  • Practices incident and accident prevention and demonstrates safe behavior in all activities.

  • Prepares for shift start by attending pre-shift meetings, gathers tools, such as log sheets, tape measures, wrenches, etc.

  • Obtains, and maintains certifications, such as fork-truck certification, CPR, Standard first aid, OSHA, by attending in-house training, and completes daily fork truck check sheets.

  • Ensures safety, quality, and production procedures are being followed by performing walk throughs, making visual inspections of equipment, and updating MOS boards.

  • Works safely to prevent on the job injuries by wearing job specific PPE, and monitoring other personnel on his/her shift are doing the same.

  • Works safely to prevent on the job injuries by assisting and performing lockout/tagout procedures.

  • Assures proper setup of the foam line, setup, and calibration of material system by delegating, and assisting others in the setup processes during changeovers.

  • Performs quality checks, and completes daily log sheets per GAF RCN plant specifications.

  • Documents quality measurements by entering data into excel spreadsheets.

  • Troubleshoots work related issues and communicates issues with maintenance and shift leads.

  • Checks product specifications by reading, and understanding, intranet web-sites, Plant RCN's, Plant PCN's.

  • Sets, and adjust saws as necessary to maintain GAF RCN specification.

  • Ensures safe, productive, quality minded, work environment by maintaining housekeeping, and performing daily housekeeping inspections.

  • Works in teams by acting as a "Trainer" to new hires.

  • Performs minor maintenance by cleaning printer heads, and maintaining appropriate ink levels.

  • Starts the dust collector system and monitors its operation.

  • Ensures proper printing, by monitoring fluid levels, refilling when necessary, and perform weekly PM's.

  • Monitors finished product for defects.

  • Prepares for shut downs, product changes, and completes shutdown/inventory check sheets.

  • Works in teams by assisting in thread-ups, shutdowns, startups, cleaning, etc.

  • Enters work orders in Maximo, and performs weekly, and monthly PM's.

  • Operates Foot saw, cutting foam boards into feet for foot inserter and for QA testing. Loads feet in the footer hopper, and maintains a constant level.

  • Ensures labels, packaging schemes, wrap, and print are correct per GAF RCN plant specification.

  • Operates the hooder making necessary adjustments when needed, and performs minor maintenance when needed.

  • Changes hooder film during product changes and monitors hooder quality.

  • Accurately completes the daily production tally sheet.

  • Packages, and transports finished product to the warehouse, if necessary, according to RCN's and PCN's.

  • Works safely, and is responsible for housekeeping in his/her work areas at all times.

  • Performs other duties as instructed by the Lead Technician and plant management team.

  • Maintains a good attendance record.

  • Maintains a positive working relationship with all plant employees and other business contacts.

  • Responsible for monitoring all process alarms by communicating and following up with appropriate action.

  • Uses process improvement tools to drive continuous improvement of the plant and business processes.

  • Optimizes chemical usage as required, adjusts chemical process settings, and works to reduce scrap,

  • Troubleshoots multi blade and crosscut.

  • Fills in for Production Lead as needed.
